The NS, or Name Server records of a domain name, reveal which servers handle the Domain Name System (DNS) records for it. Setting the name servers of a specific hosting provider for your domain address is the most effective way to direct it to their system and all its sub-records will be taken care of on their end. This includes A (the IP address of the server/website), MX (mail server), TXT (free text), SRV (services), CNAME (forwarding), and so forth, so, in case you want to change any of these records, you're going to be able to do it via their system. To put it differently, the NS records of a domain address show the DNS servers that are authoritative for it, so when you attempt to open a web address, the DNS servers are contacted to get the DNS records of the domain you are trying to access. In this way the website you'll see will be retrieved from the correct location. The name servers usually have a prefix “ns” or “dns” and every single domain address has at least two NS records. There is absolutely no functional difference between the two prefixes, so what kind a hosting provider will use depends exclusively on their preference.

NS Records in Shared Hosting

The avant-garde Hepsia CP, which comes with our shared hosting products, will permit you to handle the name servers of each domain registered through us with just a couple of mouse clicks, so even though you may have not had a hosting plan or a domain before, you simply won't encounter any issues. The Domain Manager tool, which is a part of Hepsia, features a very user-friendly interface and will enable you to modify the NS records of any domain name or even a number of domain names simultaneously. Additionally we provide you with the ability to set up child name servers dns1.your-domain.com and dns2.your-domain.com for each and every domain registered inside the account just as easily and all you need for that is a couple of IPs - either ours, if you are going to use the child NS to point the domain to the account on our cloud platform, or the ones of the third-party provider if you'll use the new records to point the domain name to their system. Unlike other companies, we don't charge more for providing this additional DNS management service.

NS Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you register a new domain inside a semi-dedicated server account or transfer an existing one from another registrar provider, you'll be able to update its NS records as required without any issues even if you have not had a domain address of your own before. The process takes a few clicks in Hepsia - the user-friendly administration tool, which comes with our semi-dedicated plans. If you have many different domain names in the account, you're going to be able to update all of them simultaneously, which can save you quite a lot of time and mouse clicks. Also you can see with ease the name servers that a domain uses and if they're the right ones or not in order for the domain to be pointed to the account that you have on our leading-edge cloud web hosting platform. Hepsia will also allow you to create private name servers under any domain address registered within the account and use them not just for that domain, but also for every other one that you want to point to our cloud platform.
