In accordance with the policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact information a domain name is registered with must be valid and accurate at all times. What’s more, this info is openly available on WHOIS lookup sites and while this may not be a problem for firms, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since everybody can view their names and their personal home and email addresses, especially in times when identity theft is not that rare. For this reason, registrars have come up with a service that conceals the details of their clients without altering them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. In case it is activated, people will see the details of the registrar company, not the domain owner’s, if they do a WHOIS lookup. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic Top-Level Domain extensions, but it is still impossible to conceal your personal details with some country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting

If you order a shared hosting plan from us, you will be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names as long as their extensions support this option. You can register or transfer a domain and enable Whois Privacy Protection during the account activation procedure or you can enable the service for any of your domains at any moment afterwards via the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is very easy – after you log in, you’ll have to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll find a list of all the domains that you’ve registered through us. For each of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol, which will show you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain name, or you can turn off the service if it is currently activated.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Activating Whois Privacy Protection for any domain name is unbelievably easy in case you have a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered through us, it will be listed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel that comes with each and every semi-dedicated server plan. If a specific generic or country-specific top-level domain name is Whois Privacy Protection-eligible, you will see a mini logo to the right of that domain. To enable the service, you’ll need to click on it. In the exact same fashion, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can enable Whois Privacy Protection for a domain name during the account activation process as well, but since the service is optional, we will offer you the possibility to add it to any of your domains at a later time if you think things over and decide to hide your personal info from the public eye after you have already created the semi-dedicated account.
