Dot NAME Domains

Started in 2001, the .NAME top-level domain is the sole TLD planned for personal sites only. These domains can include personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are known by. At the beginning, just third-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to acquire john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken third-level names remained online.
